Year 10 Boys' Football Team Win Portsmouth Cup

Springfield school played Admiral Lord Nelson on Tuesday, 25th April in the Portsmouth Under 15’s News Cup Final, after knocking Priory School out in the semi-finals. Springfield started the game slowly in the first half but eventually grew into the game. In the first half, there were a few chances for springfield that should have been scored but there were no real chances for the Admiral side. After half time it was still 0-0 even after George Burgess (10S) put a ball into the box from a free kick which was met by a header from Jacob Mulligan (10R) but the goal was disallowed. The deadlock was broken by Tom Bullock (10S), who scored from a Rhys Lloyd (10D) cross. The score wasn’t 1-0 for long as a well worked goal from the midfield led to an inside-the-box finish from Eddie Davies (10E) assisted again by Rhys Lloyd (10D). After going 2-0 down Admiral made a valiant effort, ending in a goal where the goalkeeper was beaten. In the last 10 minutes, Springfield battled well and held the ball to hold onto the victory. This ended with a hard earned win from a strong, Springfield side.

Year 8 Future Choices Day

As you may know our Year 8 pupils are currently deciding which options they will be choosing to study for the next three years.  To assist them Springfield ran a 'Future Options Day' yesterday with the help of EBP South Limited.  Local business volunteers kindly gave up their time and showcased their businesses to small groups of pupils using a speed dating style rotation.  Pupils were fully engaged in this informative day and really had time to reflect on what they would like to do once they leave Springfield.  Special thanks to EBP South Limited for organising the day and to the following companies who participated:  BAE Systems Maritime Services, Blake Morgan, Biscoes, CIPS, HRMC, Job Centre Plus, Leonardo, Vodaphone, PETA, Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust, QinetiQ, Rowans Hospice and Rowans Hospice Shop, Royal Navy, UTC, Vector Aerospace, Fareham College, CEMAST, South Downs College, Havant College, Highbury College, Manpower UK Ltd.

The Year 8 pupils are also participating in option taster sessions this week and next week to give them a more indepth idea of what each subject entails.  There is also a parent/carer options evening on Monday, 8th May 2017.

Year 8 Rugby End of Season

The Year 8 Rugby team played the last game this season on 6th April against Mayfield. The boys did really well and worked very hard in the second half to produce some excellent rugby. The group have come on very well over the past months and we hope they will all come back and play for Springfield again in September.  They recorded a decent win over Mayfield on a glorious afternoon, a nice productive end to their season.

Well done to all the pupils who have continued to support the team this year.

Springfield Girls' Basketball Team Finals

Springfield versus Yateley Hampshire Finals on 3rd April 2017

After Springfield School basketball team defeated Cams Hill School in the semi finals, we were determined to go into the final with the same confident attitude. With a strong team, we were hoping to give Yateley a difficult time to perform at their best. It was extremely close in the first quarter and we could all tell it would be a challenging match, this was indeed evident when, by half time we were only one point ahead. In the second half they became more tactical, drawing fouls from our defensive errors and despite our best efforts, we lost by 5 points. The final score - Springfield 55 - 60 Yateley.

Year 10 Leisure & Tourism 'Cabin Crew' Trip

The Year 10 Leisure & Tourism pupils had a great visit this afternoon to Highbury College to learn more about the role of cabin crew.  Lead by former Virgin Atlantic staff the pupils got to grips with all aspects of the cabin crew role as part of the transport section of their GCSE course. Many thanks to Highbury for their excellent staff and facilities.

Year 11 GCSE Drama Exam Performance

On Monday, 3rd April 2017 we were were treated to a showcase of the 2017 Year 11 Drama GCSE exam performances.  The four groups of pupils gave some really superb performances prior to their formal examination performances on Tuesday, 4th April.  The pupils worked collaboratively as members of a performance group and will be assessed on four aspects of their performance:  1)  Voice and movement    2)  Roles and characterisation   3)  Communication   4)  Content, style and form.  The performances were adaptations of a selection of scenes from a full length published play or an extract from a full length published play.  The four adaptations/extracts were 'Living with Lady Macbeth' by Rob John, 'My Mother Said I Never Should' by Charlotte Keatley, 'The Curious Incident of a Dog in the Night-Time' by Simon Stephens and 'Chatroom' by Enda Walsh.

Good luck to all the Year 11 Drama pupils on your final performances!

The De Curci Trust

Dear Parents, Carers and Pupils

I am delighted to confirm that the school's submission to form a multi-academy trust with Solent Infant School and Solent Junior School has been successful. Confirmation was received from the Department for Education at the very end of last week; and since 01st April the school has officially been operating under the governance of The De Curci Trust's charitable company.

In a letter to the Trust the Rt Hon Justine Greening, Secretary of State for Education, writes, 'Academies form an integral part of the Government's education policy to raise attainment for all children. I am delighted that Springfield School recognises the benefits academy status will bring'.

Derek Good, who for many years was Chair of Governors at Springfield School is now the Chair of Trustees for The De Curci Trust. Alan Cufley has been elected as the Chair of Governors for Springfield's local governing body.

The De Curci Trust extends its thanks to colleagues who have worked very hard to ensure that the conversion has taken place successfully. We look forward to working with colleagues across the Trust to the benefit of all pupils in the three schools.
