If you have any queries or questions please contact Mr Wharton, Deputy Headteacher.
On Friday Miss Pierre, Teacher of Languages took four Year 9 pupils to Fratton Park to celebrate the European Day of Languages. One of the challenges that they had was to produce a video promoting Portsmouth and the football club in order to lure a player to the club. Below is the link to the video made. The team whose video has the most views by 20th October will win tickets for a football match. Good luck team Springfield!
Thank you to all the prospective pupils and families who came along to our annual Open Evening last night. This was a great opportunity for visitors to get a real taste of Springfield. Some of the demonstrations/performances on hand included a cabaret of musical entertainment, indoor football, cricket, netball, badminton and basketball games as well as dancing, cooking, textiles and drama performances. Visitors were able to view the great displays of work and pupil demonstrations in each of our subject departments. Our helpful Prefects and TGAs gave thorough tours of the school showcasing each subject area. Thank you to all the pupils and staff involved you did a fantastic job!
Year 7 and 8 pupils have been taking part in 'No Pens Day' today. The spirit of the day is to focus on learning by speaking and listening and using tools other than pens to communicate thoughts and ideas. The aim of the day is to raise awareness of the importance of speaking, language and communication and should be of benefit to all pupils. Below are some great action shots of pupils re-enacting the Battle of Hastings in their History classes this morning.
Dear Parents / Carers
Evacuation of the school buildings - Tuesday, 04th October 2016
Due to a small fire in a garden adjacent to the school car park, pupils and staff were evacuated to the 'muster point' for an extended period of time this afternoon. The fire brigade were called and they promptly extinguished the fire. There was some minor damage to the immediate area only.
Due to a highly efficient evacuation, pupils, staff and visitors were kept safe. I would like to commend the pupils for following the evacuation drill correctly and waiting patiently until the 'all clear' was given to return to the buildings, which pupils did in a calm and sensible fashion - well done Springfield!
Kindly note that the timing of the incident meant that the canteen was unable to run the lunchtime service; however, you will appreciate that the physical safety of the school community must come first in these incidences.
The car park remains in use as normal.
40 Year 11 DofE students arrived on Saturday morning at a car park in the New Forest to commence their assessed expeditions. It was pouring with rain with thunder and lightening as well when they set off but this did not hinder them. Despite some navigational errors early on, all 40 impressed their assessors and passed. Congratulations Year 11 on your successful expeditions and a huge thank you to all the staff who gave up their time to assist.
Mrs Whitelock, DofE Co-ordinator
We were pleased to invite Steve Frampton the Principle of Portsmouth College to present at our Year 11 Study Skills evening last night. He is a former Chief Examiner and Ofsted Inspector and gives presentations to large audiences all around Europe. Thank you to all of you who came along and for those who could not please find below a copy of the powerpoint below. If any parents have questions or would like the opportunity to talk to Steve he will be available at the Portsmouth College Open Evenings and is happy to talk then.
Many thanks. Mr Lomas
We are thrilled to announce that our new Springfield Film is now live on the school website. The short film runs alongside our prospectus and gives a snap shot of the school and pupils here. As you may remember filming took place at the end of the summer term and uses special green filming techniques that have really captured the Springfield ethos. Special thanks to all the pupils who have enthusiastically taken part and to Shadric and Bip of Toop Studio for their hard work in creating our vision.

Year 11 Geographers have been surveying and learning about the coastal management at West Wittering and East Head for their controlled assessments this week. It stayed dry but it was a little windy!

Springfield’s annual Open Evening will be held at 6pm on 6th October 2016. During the evening you will be able to look around the school campus and meet students and staff. There will also be the opportunity for Year 6 pupils/parents/carers to attend a brief presentation given by Ms Spivey, the Headteacher. Our Open Evening is undoubtedly the best way in which to find out more about the opportunities that Springfield has to offer. However, if you are unable to attend on the 6th, the school will be offering three Open Mornings on Tuesday 11th, Wednesday 12th and Thursday 13th October. These will run from 10.35am to 11.15am and consist of a tour of the campus with a senior member of staff. Places for the Open Mornings are limited and will be allocated on a ‘first come, first served’ basis; tickets are limited to one per family. If you are unable to attend the Open Evening and would like to attend an Open Morning, please telephone Alison Norum at the school to reserve a place as soon as possible.
